Menstruation is a normal and natural part of life for many people, but unfortunately, not everyone has access to the right products. This is called period poverty, which means that you do not have enough financial resources to buy menstrual products or other menstrual necessities. Period poverty is more common than you think. It not only affects the health of girls and women, but also their daily lives, work and education. A recent study by Neigborhood Feminists confirmed that period poverty in the Netherlands affects a larger group of people than many Dutch people expect.
According to the “CODE RED” study, 765,000 people in the Netherlands have had difficulty accessing menstrual products over the past year. More than 400,000 people from this group did not have the financial means to buy menstrual products at some point. This means that approximately 13% of all Dutch menstruators have not been able to afford the products they actually needed over the past year. This has forced these people to cut back on groceries, household products, other care products, but also on health products, such as medicines.
Mooodies donates period underwear
The research of Neighborhood Feminists shows that menstruation is not a carefree experience for everyone, but at Moodies Undies we believe that everyone has the right to a carefree period. With our period underwear we offer a sustainable and comfortable alternative that helps to combat period poverty and at the same time contributes to a more sustainable future. We often donate menstrual panties to various organizations that are committed to combating period poverty. For example, our panties end up at the Poverty Fund and they can supply their Menstruation Distribution Points (MUPs) with our products. In addition, together with Veritas (our Belgian partner) we ensure that we can donate a lot of panties to Bruzelles every year. This foundation is committed to combating period poverty by delivering products free of charge to menstruating people in difficult living situations.
According to research by Libelle, a woman spends an average of €12.05 on disposable menstrual products during one menstrual cycle. Moodies menstrual underwear lasts an average of 2 to 3 years. This makes it possible to save up to €200 in a period of 2 to 3 years. In addition to the fact that menstrual underwear is a lot more environmentally friendly, you also save a lot of money with it.
We will keep everyone informed about our donation via the website page “ Moodies against period poverty ” and via social media .
