Period poverty is when someone has insufficient access to the things needed to get through your period safely and comfortably, such as sanitary towels, tampons, menstrual underwear or a cup. But painkillers and access to a shower, toilet and sink are also essential.

Sometimes women or girls put toilet paper in their underpants, or they run the risk of irritation or infection because they are forced to wear the same sanitary towel or tampon for far too long.

Unfortunately, this still happens far too often, even in the Netherlands. In 2019 study by Plan Nederland showed that 9% of young girls in the Netherlands sometimes do not have enough money for tampons and/or sanitary towels.

We are shocked that period poverty even exists in our country. That shouldn't be happening right? We are happy to contribute to improving this a little. We believe that the government has a responsibility to address this and will therefore try to bring it to the attention of the right people.

Green Meal Initavie x Moodies - Donation of 150 pairs of pants

Through Paulina from Social Handprint, we reached out tothe Green Meal Initiative for a donation as part of Amsterdam's 750th anniversary celebrations. The Green Meal Initiative is a smaller organization in Amsterdam Southeast that is committed to creating a world where healthy food is not only accessible but also celebrated as a cornerstone of vibrant living. "We envision communities where nutritious, sustainable food choices are the norm, and where individuals of all ages are encouraged to make informed decisions that support their well-being and the health of the planet."

Based on its mission, the Green Meal Initiative maintains close contact with mothers. According to Lissy van GMI, the panties will certainly be very helpful to girls and women who sometimes lack the budget to afford adequate menstrual care products.

First Menstruation Box - Kinderhulp x Moodies

All 1,500 First Menstruation Packages from the Children's Fund Foundation include a voucher for a free Moodies menstrual panty to choose from. The packages were packed in May, with Moodies helping with the packing. The packages also contained many other practical and fun items. This is a collaboration between the Children's Fund and Moodies, and we hope many children will take advantage of this offer.

Rebup International Girls' Day

This year, the Rebup Foundation (Reverse Puberty) organized another girls' day in Haarlem. For the third year running, Moodies provided 150 pairs of panties for the girls attending. All the girls also received an explanation of how menstrual underwear works and were able to ask questions. The Rebup cultural center is a safe place where girls can go after school if things are difficult at home, for a cup of tea, a listening ear, or to do their homework.

Children's Aid Donation Pants

Thanks to your support!
Through a special promotion, customers could purchase a pair of donation pants for €7.50. In May and June, this resulted in an impressive 239 additional pairs of pants , which we donated to the Children's Fund in July.

The Children's Fund ensures that these panties reach girls who don't always have enough resources to properly manage their menstruation. This provides them with a sustainable solution that lasts up to three years .

Would you also like to contribute? The donation pants are still available in our shop. Every three months, we combine all donations and forward them to the Children's Fund.

Bruzelle x Veritas

Together with our Belgian partner Veritas, we were able to make another wonderful donation of no fewer than 418 pairs of trousers to Bruzelle last May.

Jolien van Bruzelle: "With a donation like Moodies', we can offer reusable menstrual products in addition to our existing menstrual bag program. This year, we're doing this through one of our partners in Antwerp's youth work. They will be distributing a large number of menstrual underwear and swim trunks to their young people. They're committed to sustainability in the broadest sense of the word, and now they can do that with Moodies underwear. This way, young people in vulnerable situations also have the opportunity to discover which menstrual product is comfortable and suitable for them."

National Child Aid Fund

We donated 300 pairs of pants to the National Children's Fund . This fund helps children and young people aged 0 to 21 who are growing up in poverty in our country.

Anna: “We are very happy with it, and we ensure that it reaches the right children through affiliated organizations, so that these children no longer have to worry about menstrual products for a few years.”

We will continue our collaboration so that we can help even more children.

Rebup International Girls' Day

At several locations in Haarlem, the Rebup Foundation offers a warm and safe space for children and young people aged 7 to 17 – with or without a backpack. After school, you can stop by for a chat, a listening ear, and a cup of hot chocolate.

During the special girls' day organized by REBUP, the girls learned all about period underwear. Afterward, they got to choose their own underwear – a wonderful opportunity to ask questions, gain knowledge, and gain practical tips.

Bruzelle x Veritas

Bruzelle fights against menstrual poverty by collecting menstrual products and delivering them free of charge and discreetly to menstruating people in difficult living situations.

Moodies, together with our Belgian partner Veritas, launched a campaign to collect panties for this purpose. Bruzelle warmly welcomed the donation.

"We will distribute most of it to students at the beginning of the next school year, when we provide education about menstruation through our Rules of 3 project."

Rebup International Girls' Day

Read 'adolescent' reversed. Various locations in Haarlem where every child between 7 and 17 years old is welcome, with and without a backpack!

The Rebup Foundation is a safe place for teenagers and pre-teens, where you can go after school for a chat, a listening ear and a cup of hot chocolate.

On this girls' day we explained to the girls what menstrual underwear is, and they were all allowed to choose a pair of pants.

SINA Foundation

The Samen Is Not Alone Foundation ( SINA ) visits families and people in Amsterdam of all ages who live below or near the poverty line.

Personal help is paramount. This way they adapt the help to what someone really needs.

Moodies happily made a donation because SINA employees know who they can make happy with this for a longer period of time.

For example, a family in poverty with 3 daughters who had to go to the drugstore every month, and for which the budget simply wasn't there, has now been helped for a few years.

Social Grocer

In the presence of Amsterdam councilor Marjolein Moorman, responsible, among other things, for the poverty reduction portfolio, we donated a large collection of pants to Doreen Bor of the Social Grocer.

The Social Grocer is affiliated with the Food Bank and ensures that our pants end up with girls and ladies who sometimes have too little budget and who receive a long-term solution with our pants. They can go out again, to school, work and other social activities.
