When do you use anti-leakage underwear?
Leak-resistant underwear is designed for every woman who menstruates. Menstrual underwear for teenage girls experiencing their first period is a comfortable solution, but for women who have been menstruating for years, it's helpful to switch to leak-proof underwear. You can also use our leak-resistant underwear after giving birth or if you experience sweating, discharge, or light urine leakage. Moodies can also be used as incontinence underwear . In short, we have suitable leak-proof underwear for everyone. And the best part is, it absorbs up to 35 ml of fluid:
- Before, during and after your period;
- Separation;
- Urinary incontinence/mild incontinence;
- After labia surgery and
- After giving birth.
How our leak-proof underwear works
Does leak-proof underwear feel wet? No! A comforting thought, right? It's certainly not pleasant when your underwear constantly feels damp. The first layer of leak-proof underwear quickly wicks away moisture, keeping your underwear feeling dry. The middle layer absorbs moisture, and thanks to the antibacterial wash, it remains hygienic and prevents odors, keeping you dry and fresh. And the third layer is an extra water-repellent layer. For a detailed explanation, see our how period underwear works page.
Different types of leak-proof underwear for women and girls
We offer various styles and colors of leak-proof underwear. Choose your favorite. For summer days, we have lighter colors in the form of a beige seamless hiphugger , and bamboo period panties are perfect for sleeping and working out. We also have seamless leak-proof briefs that are perfect for wearing under tighter clothing or during exercise, and panties with lace to make you feel a little prettier and sexier during your period. For teens, we even have a special line with three bamboo styles. Choose from various colors, a bold style, or a more delicate panty.
Besides various styles and colors of leak-proof underwear, we also divide our leak-proof briefs into six different levels. The six different absorbency levels range from light to super. Sustainable choice
With the right delicate care, leak-proof underwear for women has a lifespan of 2 to 3 years. This depends on how often you wear and wash it. And besides the long lifespan of our period underwear, it's also a good choice for your wallet and the environment.
If you wear five of our leak-proof underwear over a two- to three-year period, you'll save approximately €150 to €200. A study published in the Libelle newspaper found that we spend an average of €12.05 per month on sanitary pads and tampons. This also saves us around 250 to 300 disposable products annually.
Help someone with menstrual poverty
Moodies donates 5% of all panties sold to various organizations that help reduce menstrual poverty. Did you know that in Amsterdam alone, 25% of girls and women sometimes don't have enough money to buy menstrual products? A pair of Moodies can help a person living with menstrual poverty for several years. So with your purchase, you're helping someone who really needs it!
How often should you change anti-leak underwear?
Just as every woman changes her tampon or pad at a different time, the frequency of your absorbent underwear also varies from person to person. We use a safe rule of thumb: on your light to medium days, you can wear our leak-proof underwear for 8 to 10 hours. At the end of the day, it's best to put on a clean one the evening before you go to bed. However, we also understand that it's a good idea to change your underwear more often, for example, when you get home from school or work, and just before bed.
It's handy to have several pairs in your closet. Make sure you have around five to seven pairs of our leak-proof underwear in your drawer to get through your period comfortably. You'll need to wash your leak-proof underwear once or twice during your period, depending on the length of your period.
On some days, it can be helpful to bring a clean pair of period panties in a handy waterproof storage bag . This is also a safe way to take your used panties home. You can simply wash the storage bag along with the panties at 30 degrees Celsius. For girls and women with heavy periods, it can also be helpful to combine wearing period underwear with a cup or tampon.
Washing instructions for leak-proof underwear
Wash your underwear before using it for the first time to activate its absorbency. Think of a new towel; you should also wash it first, otherwise it won't absorb properly. After wearing, wash your anti-leak underwear as follows:
After use during menstruation, rinse the panties under the cold tap.
#1 Rinse the panties until you no longer see any red color in the rinse water.
When used for incontinence, rinsing is not as important but it can do no harm.
#2 If you're waiting to wash your underwear, hang it over the edge of the laundry basket. Don't soak it in a bucket of water. This can reduce its absorbency.
#3 Wash the underwear at 30 degrees Celsius, without fabric softener. Instead of fabric softener, you can use natural vinegar, which has the added benefit of being gentle on your washing machine.
#4 Line-dry your leak-proof underwear, never in the dryer. The heat from the dryer will damage the waterproof layer, reducing its effectiveness.
#5 Let the underwear dry well so that they can absorb moisture again!
