In this series, we'll take you through the 4 phases of your menstrual cycle and show you how to calm cravings in each phase with delicious recipes. This series was created by our intern Ilayah, reviewed by Orthomolecular Therapist Marlon Haandrikman.
The summer of your cycle, the ovulatory phase, is a time of fertility and flourishing. It's a period when your body prepares to welcome new life, and it's also a time when you often feel your best, full of energy and radiating self-confidence.
During the ovulatory phase, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels in your body peak, resulting in the release of an egg from your ovaries. This egg is ready to be fertilized and begins its journey through the fallopian tube to the uterus. At the same time, your estrogen levels reach their peak, thickening the uterine lining to create an ideal environment for a fertilized egg to implant.
It is in this phase that many people experience an increase in energy and vitality. You feel radiant, full of charisma and self-confidence. Your libido may reach its peak, making this time particularly suitable for romance and intimacy. Communication skills seem sharper, making it a perfect moment for social interactions, perhaps even an exciting first date.
Regarding nutrition, it is advisable to opt for fiber-rich foods and a little less carbohydrates during the ovulatory phase. This can help maintain your energy levels and support your digestion. And with that increased energy, you're probably able to exercise more intensely, so go for it and enjoy the boost you get from your natural cycle.
With that in mind, today we share this delicious:
Recipe for Greek Oat Pancakes!
What you need:

- 2 spoons of Greek yogurt
- 2 eggs
- 1 packet of baking powder or half a packet of baking soda
- a pinch of salt
- a capful of vanilla extract
- 1 cup of oat flour
- almond milk
- blueberries
Greek yogurt contains proteins essential for building and repairing tissues.
Oat flour contains fibers that can help regulate blood sugar levels.
Blueberries have a low glycemic index, meaning they are broken down slowly and keep blood sugar levels stable. This can help prevent spikes and drops in blood sugar, which is beneficial for hormone balance.
Put all ingredients in a large bowl and mix until well combined!
Tip: if your batter is too watery, add some flour, and if it's too thick, add some extra milk. When the pancakes are baked, you can eat them with powdered sugar and butter or syrup. Enjoy your meal!
